Khadijah – Independent but Obedient

Khadijah (ra) was a successful businesswoman who supported the Prophet (saw) with everything she had. She did not disrespect her husband. She financially supported him so he could preach with all his heart and energy. She was a class, submissive and obedient as a wife, dependent on the husband for homefront growth and good mother to her children.

An independent wife refers to a woman who is self-sufficient, capable of making her own decisions, and does not rely on her husband for financial or emotional support. An independent woman makes her own choices and decisions, while a husband in a traditional dynamic setting might be expected to take the lead in decision-making.

In our time, the phrase ‘independent woman’ is not meant for Muslimah, as it relates to women who can not be maintained by their husbands. Abundance, they say, comes with pride, so it is better when you refer yourself properly. Stop chasing men away with ‘I am independent’. Do not forget that religious and traditional gender roles can influence perceptions of marriages.

“Independence in women signifies that they don’t “need” a man in a traditional sense, which can create anxiety for men who are accustomed to feeling needed for security and guidance.” Most husbands may feel insecure about their own status or abilities when faced with a wife who is highly independent. He thinks, with the wife’s affluence, he might be unable to give permission to her before she steps out of the house.

I hope one day, you will not refer to the mother of the believer as a feminist. May Allah protect us. A successful businesswoman or wealthy wife is better relevant than an independent woman in a manner of speaking. A husband wants to marry a successful businesswoman, but he might not want an independent woman.

Always pay attention to details.
